Semiconductor chip titan Analog Devices reports data breach

The semiconductor company Analog Devices reported an intrusion into its systems and the exfiltration of data in a filing Wednesday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The Massachusetts-based chip manufacturer told regulators that on June 23 it identified “unauthorized access” to certain systems and activated incident response. It brought in outside cybersecurity experts and began coordinating with law enforcement.

While investigating the incident, the company discovered “certain files” had been exfiltrated but the scope of the breach is not yet known. Analog Devices does not expect the intrusion will have any material impact on its business.

“To the Company’s knowledge, the data has not been publicly released or used for fraudulent purposes,” the filing says. Analog Devices noted that it was informed of another “disparate cybersecurity matter” on July 26 that it claims is not connected to the infiltration in June. The firm is “assessing its validity, scope, and any potential impact.”

The company did not provide any further information about this purported incident, but it may be related to claims posted by the ransomware group ExfilSquad that it had stolen more than 570,000 records related to Analog Devices customers.

An Analog Devices spokesperson did not address questions about the ransomware claims.

With a market cap of more than $178 billion and more than $11 billion in revenue last year, the company is a major player in the chip manufacturing boom. It specializes in chips and circuits for data conversion and signal processing.

Globally, semiconductor companies have in recent years been the target of ransomware attacks and cyberespionage.

Microchip Technology was attacked by the Play ransomware gang in 2024 while Applied Materials was hit in 2023. The California-based semiconductor testing company Trio-Tech International reported a ransomware attack on its Singapore subsidiary in March, and the Taiwanese manufacturer Foxconn dealt with a cyberattack in May that affected production at several American factories.
